You know the thoughts you have when you know that you need to apologize. You start sifting through your mind for the smallest evidence that maybe it wasn’t really your fault. 

Of course, you need to and the sooner the better. 

But who ever taught us how to do it correctly? That thing where we make our kids apologize, though important, is not sufficient. 

I like what I read here. The blogger, Joellen at Cuppacocoa.com, breaks the apology into four parts.  I’ve read other breakdowns, but this version seems to be the best. Here are the four parts:
  • I’m sorry for… (be specific)
  • This was wrong because…
  • In the future I will…
  • Will you forgive me?
It is stressful to know we need to apologize. But it is more stressful to let it go on.
